This will soon be mine
Just hear me out...

My #1 reason to buy a PS3 is MGS4. Therefore I don't need to buy one until late 2007.
MGS4 and Final Fantasy 13 will eventually lead me to getting the PS3 as well, but for once I'm skipping a launch purchase on it.
But the way you play Wii games seems so much more developed than either PS3 or Xbox360. I'm sure the wand will make game play much more enjoyable.
...to each his own, Nintendo games don't appeal to me
I think you need to exercise that open mind a little more.
Congratulations on posting the most ridiculous comment this thread will see.
I have a DS Lite. It's making this stay in Afghanistan a million times better.

You have to read mine down below then. :-)

Nah, you just need to exercise that open mind a little more.
Congratulations on posting the most ridiculous comment this thread will see.
I guess we can't take a joke in this thread, then?
Congratulations on posting the most ridiculous comment this thread will see.
Nah, I think you get that award.
Wow, you have eighteen reasons already and I haven't even been able to come up with even one yet.
No. There's one reason why you've pre-ordered a PS3.
That there is a list of the justifications you're telling yourself to make yourself feel better. Apart from selling it on eBay (#18), which isn't even your intention, you don't have a single compelling reason to buy a PS3 on launch.
The PS3 does two things. It plays games, and it plays Blu-Ray DVD movies.
If it were for the movies (#5), and you are such an early adopter (#6) and you can afford it (#15), then you'd probably have a Blu-Ray player by now, if that were what's really blowing your skirt up about the PS3.
You list one game (#7) which doesn't even come out until some time next year and a video game rental service (#10) as reasons, yet you feel that Sony's still in control here (#3). Based on what? You only list one game that you're interested in, is that it? Sounds like you're flying on blind faith here, mate.
I also don't understand what a PS2 and a PSP has to do with it, are they making you buy a PS3 by throwing disc read errors every time you try to play a game, or just generally being a useless piece of handheld crap?
Oh, wait, (#4) is meant to enlighten us to your fanboy status, right? Now I see, it's not that there are any games that you want to play on the PS3 at launch, or that Blu-Ray is really that compelling to you, it's just a mindless decision based on lust for a product that hasn't proven itself to be of any use whatsoever.
If I were you, I'd go and do a #2 right now. Keep your money and buy one when you actually have some proper reasons.
And I apologize for my obnoxious comment. I really don't have anything against you, or your decision. I just don't see any compelling reason to rush out for a PS3, and I see that you don't, either. The PS3 might be a fine investment which will keep you amused for the next decade, but I think caution, rather than enthusiasm should be exercised towards it right now. If there aren't even any games you want to play, why drop 5-600$ on something that might come out with good games? Why not wait for the good games to come out, then blow your wad? Maybe it's me that's crazy.
I want a PS3, and a Wii, and an Xbox 360.
Dammit all.
Stupid consoles and their stupid exclusive titles.
Vincent, I am totally with you here.
I'm picking up my bought-from-eBay Xbox 360 from the post office this afternoon (with GRAW and Call of Duty 2), and I'm planning on asking for a Wii from my aunt for Christmas (she visits every few years and drops in with a big gift, and I'm not about to ask her to shell out $600), and buying a PS3 when first-gen kinks are worked out and the mad-rush-at-console-launch dies away.
All of these systems have such spectacular games coming out, oh mama.
Between Gears of War, Halo 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Viva Pinata (don't laugh), MGS4, Resistance: Fall of Man, Call of Duty 3, Forza Motorsport 2, Twilight Princess, R6 Vegas, Lair, gaahhhhhh the list goes on and on!
Anyway, 2007 will be a spectacular year for videogaming. I can't wait.
Oh, and I have a white DS Lite, which I plan to give to my little sister and pick up a black DS Lite for myself. Once we get the Wii, we'll be rockin' the Wii-DS WiFi connectivity and battling each other's Pokemon. :-p
1. $0 down at Lik-Sang - agreed 2. Can cancel pre-order at anytime - agreed 3. I believe Sony, even with all their mistakes, is still the console gaming leader, hands down - define "leader", if its most profitable, then Nintendo makes more money, if its most innovative, then Nintendo leads there as well, if its overall most games, Nintendo leads there too (dating back to NES), if you mean, currently the most popular, Sony is correct 4. I own a PS2 and and PSP - Don't know why this is a reason to buy PS3 5. I'm a High Definition Junkie and the PS3 is a decent (tongue-in-cheek) investment in High Definition DVD capability - for those fortunate enough to have a 1080p TV, I can see why you'd want a PS3, so that you can finally use that exspensive TV you bought 6. I'm an early adopter - agreed 7. Gran Turismo HD - Is this the one that you have to buy the game and then buy tracks and vehicles seperately, or is that Gran Turismo 5, I get confused 8. I'm a gadget junky - agreed 9. The XBox360 has very few "next-gen" titles. Dead Rising, Ghost Recon 3: Advanced Warfighter, and Fight Night Round 3 are the only ones that impressed me. I feel the PS3 may have more, even with a limited launch - PS3 will not have more at first, the reason 360 doesn't have many is because mostly only exclusive titles were made next-gen, since the 360 is the only next-gen system out 10. Gamefly. Nuff said - How does this argue for PS3 versus Wii, XBox360? 11. Definitely not for the interface - ? 12. My belief that each console has its own killer titles - Once again, How does this argue for PS3 versus Wii, XBox360? 13. I'm a gadget junky :) - agreed 14. I'm not close-minded to technology. I use Windows and Mac OS X. I own a PS2 and an XBox 360 - Don't know what you mean by this? 15. I can afford it - Wish I could 16. My wife approves - Wish mine would 17. I don't foresee myself buying a Nintendo Wii (to each his own, Nintendo games don't appeal to me) - Yes, to each his own, however in your earlier point you said that all consoles have their own killer titles, Nintendo is not an exception, and unlike other consoles they have a killer app for every genre (except maybe RPG) - FPS - "Metroid Prime 3", Action/Adventure - Zelda "Twilight Princess", Sports - "Madden 2007", Party - "Mario Party", Platform - "Super Mario Galaxy" as well as many many more, speaking of which all games listed are exclusive. You might notice that Madden 2007 is listed and I claim its exclusive, this is because if you read about it, while it shares a lot with the other consoles, the control schema is so radically different and exciting, as well as new play modes, such as backyard 2-on-2 that it really is an exclusive title for the content you receive. 18. eBay backup plan :P - agreed
As you can see while I agree with you on 6 of your reasons (which is probably why I have it pre-ordered as well) there are many points of yours that I do not agree with, do not understand and a couple you are just contradict yourself on. I have a PS3 pre-ordered from Lik-Sang, but if I cannot get it on day one and resell it on ebay, I will be canceling my order. Not to say I don't think the PS3 will be a good system one day, but it is not worth the money for me since I don't have a 1080p TV and are interested in 0 day one games. I will wait for some games like Final Fantasy to come out and hopefully for the price to drop, as well as hopefully purchasing a new TV before then. As for this year and the near future my investment will be spent on the Wii which I'm incredibly excited about, due to their innovation, price, and exclusive titles!
Hmmm, that didn't format as well as it looked for me, sorry.
Gran Turismo HD? You know that's just a prettier version of GT 4, right? And that the disc you buy will contain no tracks or cars, but you will instead have to purchase this content from Sony's download service?
I'm a little behind the times: I am just now playing through GT4 (picked up for $10 used) and I must say, it is darn pretty already.
You know that's just a prettier version of GT 4, right?
In all fairness, you could make that comment about a lot of games out there; video game companies make tons of money on prettier versions of predecessors, and it has been going on since the days of the SNES sequels of NES games.
GT HD is going to use the same tracks as GT 4.
Video game companies don't typically make things prettier and resell them; franchises like FF, Mario, Zelda, etc, are apart of a series, each with its own plot and objectives. Jax 3 is just a prettier version of Jax & Daxter? No, it's another installment.
Of course cars will be added--new models have since come out and must be included in the updated game. But if the courses are the same, isn't it pretty much the same @!$%#? If you took Link and put him in a game to save Princess Peach, it's still a Mario game.

The premium version will ship with only two tracks and thirty cars (with more to be downloadable [for free, I assume] later). The basic version will be...menus, I guess.
- 750 cars for $0.50-$1.00
- 50 tracks for $1.50-$4.50
Wouldn't you want AT LEAST fifteen tracks? Sure you CAN just get one car and spend all the money on tracks, but after adding the cost of the base (and pretty much contentless) disc, the premium (benefit of the doubt $15 but most likely at least $20) would run you $60 (assume $3 x 15 + $15).
Gran Turismo 5 is expected to be out in 2008. EVERY game in the GT series has been late, so this means chances are it will be out 2009. Until then, have fun playing Gran Turismo 4 in 1080p on your 1080i TV, except this time you will be paying for individual cars/tracks. Don't get me wrong, I loved Gran Turismo 4, but this paying for content, is pure BS. I hope it comes back and bites them so that everyone realizes how bad of an idea this truly is.
I'll wait for when it gets to current (or close to) PS2 price levels. My PC and 360 satisfy me enough for now.
I'm more interested in the PS exclusive games anyway and we won't see many of those (i.e. God of War 3) until later in its life.
Is it just me, or are reasons 1, 2, and 18 not so much "reasons to pre-order a PS3" as much as "reasons why I won't regret it if it's a monumentally stupid decision"?
To each his own, though. I don't see any particular reason to pick apart your reasoning, since everyone has different tastes. I want a PS3 as well; after I get my Wii and 360. Kutaragi keeps claiming the PS3 will have a 10 year life span. Maybe after 8 years I can afford it.
Frakkin' 360 FTW!
One reason I'm getting a PS3: To make a grand or so when I sell it off.
:D
Preorders of it will probably be pushing a grand.
You're gonna eBay the thing for two G's?
I seeit going up to maybe $1200. Not much more than that, unless you're the next-gen version of lucky bastard who eBay'd a PS2 for $1500.
You're in Easy Mode. If you prefer, you can use XHTML Mode instead. |
